Chair Yoga
During the last NAF Conference I was able to try something called Chair Yoga.
What is Chair Yoga?
Chair Yoga is a specific form of yoga as therapy developed by Lakshmi Voelker-Binder in 1982, practised sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support. The poses are often adaptations of asanas in modern yoga as exercise.

I really liked imitating the movements of the leader and even though I do not like yoga, I found these exercises easy and pleasant and I actually felt refreshed and energetically charged after such a session. As if I had spent the last half hour in deep relaxation, not in physical exercise.
Since I am not yet a person with the mobility limitations of ataxia (I can walk without support), I thought that I could do these exercises while standing – it would probably be a sensible handicap for a person like me. While exercising, I understood that Chair Yoga is a method for sitting exercises and I do not have to modify it in any way. Therefore, it is suitable for people who cannot stand and for people who are lazy by nature, like me, who have a hard time finding half an hour a day to relax (this message was supposed to be ironic). I am not a person conducting such exercises, so I invite you to familiarize yourself with the offer of the lady present at the conference: Some of her videos on the channel show suggestions for exercises on the chair and I think that I will use them. From what I can see, she conducts workshops with people with limited mobility, so if you like this form of sport, why not contact her?
I am not writing this for advertising purposes, I will not receive any remuneration for this blogpost, but I believe that it is worth promoting people who learn how to adapt exercises to our demanding audience. I tried to practice ordinary yoga and well – even for me, a person still quite fit, some activities were exclusive. In ordinary yoga, you have to change the position of the body a lot and to be honest I have no idea how to modify it.
How does it look like with you? Have you practiced ordinary yoga? Can you do it?
